The internet is stormed by the alleged Yahoo! Group leak of Vice President Leni Robredo and Loida Nicolas-Lewis’ camp about its plot to discredit pro-Duterte personalities (like Mocha Uson, Sass, and ThinkingPinoy) and a plot unseat President Duterte.
Let me get the truth out on this matter as an IT professional. Just how legit and real is the Leni Leaks?
The Yahoo! Group is called Global Filipino Diaspora Council
So what is the Global Filipino Diaspora Council?“The US Pinoys for Good Governance (USPGG), headed by philanthropist Loida Nicolas Lewis, widow of the late billionaire Reginald Lewis, is considered as the most influential Filipino American organization in the U.S. Its membership is composed of lawyers, doctors, scientists, engineers, accountants, nurses, academicians, computer technology people, writers, business executives, entrepreneurs and other professional people.
This group and its members not only have influence with national and local officials in the U.S. but also in the Philippines.” [Inq]
So, the group is legit and is ‘very influential’. The article is written by Ted Laguatan, who is also a member of GFDC and its official Yahoo! Group, once named President Duterte a Rodolfo in his article in Inquirer (now corrected). He’s calling for President Duterte to resign.
Why choose Yahoo! Group?
Facebook’s Group app was released in the year 2010. The oldest post in the Yahoo! group retrieved by ThinkingPinoy in his article is way back 2012. And according to the group info, the group was founded September 29, 2011 (cached by Google). That’s a year ahead of Facebook Group App release, so considering the 62 members of the group, which consists of senior people who are mostly not computer-savvy, and to think that Yahoo! was a thing back then before Facebook, it is likely that GFDC will choose Yahoo! Group to be their place to discuss things. Yahoo! Mail is also used mostly by senior people since Google Mail wasn’t a thing too back then. Remember Yahoo! Messenger days? Old times!
Is the Yahoo! Group still active?
Obviously yes, although the site is now restricted from the public, netizens were able to archive the website. Imelda Nicolas, sister of Loida forwarded an email from Pete Silva of OVP SOCMED, the post was published on January 4, 2017. So there’s no denying that the group is still active prior to the restriction of the group from the public.
An honest mistake or planted evidence?
Like I said, the members of GFDC are mostly not computer-savvy, it is obvious that the Group moderator/author mistakenly set his post to the public instead of private. It is a common mistake by careless people on the internet. They can set it back to private (they already did) but there are tons of copies already archived on the internet.
There is no evidence that the post was planted because it is posted by Imelda Nicolas and there was no objection in the post. It’s been there for days if it is fake, the members of the group could have noticed it and deleted it, but they didn’t, so they did not know that the post was public since they don’t know how to take advantage of Google’s crawling technology and keyword search algorithm. The plot was founded accidentally by a netizen when he/she was searching for the names that connect to the Vice President Leni Robredo on her US trip this new year as released by Sass Rogando Sasot on her Facebook page.
The GFDC and Leni’s camp are still quiet
It’s been three days since the eruption of the #LeniLeaks but mainstream media is silent about the matter, and GFDC nor the Office of the Vice President hasn’t released any statement about the alleged leak. So there’s something fishy here since Leni’s camp is active on social media and responds to any allegations instantly. But this time, they’re careful and is obviously planning what script to say in order to cover up the leak. All they did is restrict the Yahoo! group of GFDC from the public. That’s the only action they’ve taken so far.
Mainstream media is quiet even though the hashtag LeniLeaks is trending because some members of the group are also in the media, as Ted said in his article, the group is very influential both local and in the U.S.
In my article, “Leila de Lima’s US trip exposed”, talks about the participation of Liberal Party supporters like Loida Nicolas-Lewis in the US to oust Duterte. The leak has just thicken the plot and the group when it was set to public was cached by Google. Articles cached by Google cannot be edited since it is a carbon copy of the article before it was changed, unavailable or removed. So a conspiracy about pro-Duterte personalities editing the articles is purely a hoax. Like I said, it is cached by Google and it will not be edited by outside parties.
You can look up the archived leaks on the internet. Sass has also converted the conversations into a pdf file and is published on the internet.
